Packaging your Motorcycle Parts for Shipment

Many full bike sets have been shipped to us without damage and We have Never had a part arrive to the customer Damaged in any way . Sending parts to be painted through the services of FedEx or UPS is a common practice and quite Safe .

This is not as scary or difficult as one would think . While UPS will most likely throw your stuff around , carefull attention on your part will insure that no damage is done to the contents . There are many ways to package the parts correctly . The tank is most critical so we will give this special attention . Average cost oneway is around $35 within the States .

* Fully empty tank of fuel and remove gas filler cap and petcock valve as these will not be needed . Allow the tank to airdry completly . If you have access to an air hose you can wrap your hand around the nozzle at the filler cap and slightly pressurize the tank to force any remaining fuel from the bottom opening . Just prior to packaging place masking tape over these openings to prevent fuel odors from escaping .

* Each part should have its own box . In the case where side panels are to be painted they can be divided between the fender boxes and shipped along with those parts but the tank should be the only bike part in its box .

* Every part should have a minimum of 4" of packing material between its edges and the sides of the box . This is side ,Top ,Bottom ,Front and rear !

* Use strong containers . How easy the box sides will give is directly poportional to the damage to the parts if they do suffer an impact . If the box is weak then cutting panels of cardboard from another box or sheets of 1/8" hardboard (Pegboard without the holes) is recomended to line all sides before adding the packing filler material . Packing material can be anything from densly packed shredded paper to wadded up newspapers or foam peanuts .

* Use two boxes on the tank when possible . Placing the tank in a box with packing material and then placing that box in a larger container with packing material around it almost fully insures no damage will come to the tank if dropped . ( NEVER Ship a tank or heavy part if the sides are less than 4" away from the box edge !!) Basically if you are not comfortable with dropping the box down the stairs when you are finished packing then most likely you shouldn't ship them in that box ..>g<

* Use masking tape to secure a pc of foam or thickness of bubble wrap to the tank sides , fender ends and top curve of fenders etc to insure that if part shifts in packing the parts will not come in direct contact with box sides .

* Place a duplicate shipping label inside of box in case outside label gets torn away or lost .

* Insure parts for what you think would be your replacement value . Upon returning we will insure the parts for that amount plus the cost of the Custom Painting .

* Allow 1 full week for parts to arrive to us . Allow us 1 full week after painting for the parts to cure and be packaged for return shipping then 1 full week for delivery .

There you go , Nothing very difficult just a few details to give attention and you're all set .
